COLUMBUS PELVIC CENTER

Center for urinary and sexual health. Pelvic center is a team of professionals experts in the diagnosis and treatment of the pelvic floor.

What is the pelvic floor?

It’s all the organs in the lower abdomen (bladder, rectum, urethra, the uterus in women and prostate in men).

What are the treated problems?

  • female urinary incontinence
  • male urinary incontinence
  • Genital prolapse
  • Bladder emptying disorders (prostatic hypertrophy, urethral stricture)
  • Chronic pelvic pain (cystitis, prostatitis, vulvodynia)
  • Female sexual disorders (painful intercourse, vaginal dryness)
  • Male sexual disorders (premature ejaculation, erectile dysfunction)

Why is a team needed to take care of these issues?

Functional problems of the bladder also involve nearby organs such as the rectum and uterus or prostate, but also the muscular and bone structures that support the organs themselves. This is a complex anatomical region, which involves doctors with different specialties but with the sole objective of restoring urinary, sexual and intestinal well-being.

A multidisciplinary management puts the focus on the patient, allowing the professionals to come up with a specific and personalized solution for the patient.

What are the goals of the Pelvic Center?

  • Give a quicker diagnosis by promoting rapid access to treatment
  • Encourage a more active and informed participation of patients in treatment choices
  • A discussion between specialists to create around the patient a network of skills at his service
  • Improve efficiency to optimize the time available

How to access the service?

Through a specialist outpatient visit based on the prevalent symptom. During the visit, a rehabilitation plan designed around the patient, his needs and his disorders will be developed. Should the problem require a surgical approach, the patient will be evaluated and accompanied in this choice with greater awareness of the anatomical areas involved and a rehabilitation program that will make an easier recovery after the operation.
